Privacy and removals
In short: no tracking and no cookies. We keep what you send us and what organisations publish themselves. You can ask us to show you it, fix it or remove it.
Questions, removals or complaints: ray@thebristolcreative.co.
Who's responsible
The Bristol Creative Co is a not-for-profit. It's becoming a community interest company. Until it's registered, its founder, Ridwanul Kabir Shakib (Ray), is responsible for your data. The law calls this the data controller. Contact: ray@thebristolcreative.co.
What we collect and why
- Listings
- Details organisations publish on their own websites and social media, or send us. Sometimes this includes names of people publicly linked to them. We publish it as a free public guide (our legitimate interest). Individual people are listed only when they ask (consent). We never publish home addresses.
- Forms
- What you type. Our host also records your IP address (your connection's internet address), browser type and page with every form. We use it to check listings and reply to you (our legitimate interest).
- Paid listings
- Your listing, offers and email. We use them to match your payment and give you what you paid for (contract).
- Payments
- Ko-fi passes us your name, email and any message. We keep payment records for tax (legal obligation).
- Reports
- What you tell us, which may include sensitive details. We use it to keep people safe (our legitimate interest). The law lets us handle sensitive details to safeguard children and people at risk.
Who else handles it
- Netlify hosts the site and stores forms. Akismet checks forms for spam. Both are US companies, so form data is stored in the US. Their data processing terms set out how it's protected.
- Ko-fi takes payments, under its own privacy policy.
- AI tools, including Claude through Netlify, help us check and format listings and Get listed forms. Reports never go into AI tools.
- Safeguarding teams or the police, only when a report suggests someone may be at risk.
- Everyone: listings are public. Anyone can reuse them for free as open data and through our summary for AI tools.
- WhatsApp: if you join our community, other members can see your number. WhatsApp's privacy policy applies.
We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
- Get listed and Work with us forms
- 12 months after we've dealt with them.
- Paid listings and payments
- 6 years, for tax records.
- Reports
- 6 years after the last action. We keep them longer if the law or a safeguarding team needs us to.
- Listings
- While the organisation is listed. Removed listings go at the next update.
On your device
No cookies, no analytics and no ad networks. Fonts are hosted here, so your browser never contacts Google. Some things are saved in your own browser only, because you asked for them. These are your contact list, the places you've marked as contacted and your reading settings. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you. You can ask us to correct it, delete it or limit how we use it. You can object to us using it, or get a copy to take elsewhere. If you gave consent, you can take it back at any time. Email ray@thebristolcreative.co and we'll reply within a month. Sometimes we have to keep something, such as a safeguarding report. If so, we'll tell you.
Complaints
Unhappy with how we've handled your data? Email ray@thebristolcreative.co with "Data protection complaint" in the subject. We'll reply within 30 days to say we've got it. Then we'll look into it and tell you the outcome. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
